Across Borders – entre les horizons
Ensemble Ecoute
CONCERT | RESIDENCY | COMPOSER RESIDENCY
Across Borders – entre les horizons focuses on the concept of interaction: between composer and performer, between different cultures and artistic traditions, and between different generations. Ensemble Écoute has commissioned three works from Emma Jane Lloyd (Scotland), Matthew Whiteside (Ireland) and Sofia Avramidou (Greece/France), which will be developed as part of the project. The aim of this Franco-Irish- British project is twofold. Firstly, to explore the music of three young composers from or living in each of the countries represented, in order to create a programme in which new musical works enter into dialogue with 20th century masterpieces. Secondly, to strengthen the existing, but sometimes neglected, links between musicians, composers and audiences in France, the UK and Ireland through a highly collaborative project.
Thanks to Across Borders, I was able to work with Ensemble Écoute for the first time and it was a great pleasure for me to collaborate with these young musicians who are very committed and open to my music. This project has also enabled me to meet other composers of my generation from the UK, so that we can exchange and share our different areas of work and research together. I’m absolutely delighted that my music is being performed for the first time in Scotland and Ireland and that it will reach a new audience.
