Eire Chlasaiceach - L’Irlande Classique

Orchestre National de Bretagne

CONCERT | COMMISSION | EDUCATIONAL PROJECT

The full concert programme features ONB’s commission to Michael Gallen (IR), Bád ón Alltar, along with works by the Irish composers B. Whelan, I. Boyleand and A. Fleischmann. Michael Gallen will also be involved in composition masterclasses at the Rennes Conservatory

“This new work interrogates our relationship with otherness, drawing inspiration from the Celtic idea of the thin veil between our perceived reality and the “far country” or otherworld. The piece draws deeply upon the composer’s memories of growing up on the Irish border during the Troubles – the way in which a boundary can develop its own aura, becoming both a magnetic centre and a giver of identity.”

— Michael Gallen, composer, musician
