Festival d’Automne à Paris
CONCERT | TOUR | COMMISSION
As part of the 2025 Festival d’Automne in Paris, in partnership with the Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival and IRCAM, several concerts will spotlight three distinctive voices in contemporary creation: Rebecca Saunders, Alex Paxton, and Lisa Illean. Performed by Ensemble Nikel and mezzo-soprano Noa Frenkel, their works delve into the physicality of sound and the interplay between language, rhythm, and timbre.
Rebecca Saunders transforms the words of Ed Atkins into raw, intimate sonic material—tactile, charged, and vividly embodied. Alex Paxton composes music that bursts with colour and joy, where jazz, improvisation, and electronics converge in a richly rhythmic, sensorial flow. Lisa Illean invites a deep listening to the natural world, drawing connections between sound and image in subtle, poetic gestures. Together, these artists shape a programme where the fantastical meets the organic, and where sound becomes a living, breathing form.
