CONCERT | TOUR | RESIDENCYLegato 2 brings together partners in France (Festival Ensemble(s)) & Scotland (Red Note & sound) for the 2nd edition of this project designed to increase awareness of composers, musicians & audiences of the new music being created in each other’s countries, whilst giving 6 emerging composers the opportunity to create new work under the guidance of composer-mentors Jérôme Combier & Laura Bowler. It will run from July 2027 to September 2028 & include a composition course at the 2027 soundfestival & premieres of works at Festival Ensemble(s) in Bagolet in September 2028.

July 2027 - Session 1 (online) : Online introduction to the project, the instruments and the composers.
September 2027 - Session 2 : in-person or online meets between the French emerging composers and French mentor, and the UK emerging composers and UK mentor.
October 2027 - Session 3: 5-day composition course during the soundfestival in Aberdeen for the 6 emerging composers, with musicians from Red Note Ensemble (Scotland), a French conductor and the two composer-mentors. The course will finish with a sharing of the emerging composer’s pieces at a public event during the soundfestival.
From November to June 2028: 2 online mentoring sessions per composer with the mentors as they develop their pieces.
September 2028 – Session 4: 3 days in Bagnolet during Festival Ensembles for the 6 emerging composers with French musicians from Festival Ensembles, the French conductor and the two composer mentors. The emerging composers pieces will them be premiered at the festival
